Bonsai Society of Acadiana held its' monthly meeting on Feb. 2nd. In attendance was Boyd, Johnny, Alex, Dot, Bobby, Vic, Jane, Mike, and Bruce. 2011 dues continue to be collected. So far, everyone who has attended the January or February meeting has paid. Upcoming events were discussed, including a Saturday workshop on 2/12, a potential Saturday workshop with Dana Quattlebaum on 3/19, and the Festival des Fleurs on 4/2. The classroom will be open from 8-5 on Saturday, 2/12 for a club workshop. Bring absolutely anything to work on. Great time to wire, air layer, or repot. If you plan on potting, don't forget your tree, pot, and soil. I plan on doing a few large repots. Lunch will be on your own.
Johnny gave a short presentation about bonsai material selection from a regular nursery. He then walked through the thought process of taking regular nursery stock and beginning the process of turning it into a bonsai. His example was a 10 foot tall nursery trident maple. We then had a brief discussion of trees brought by Bobby, Vic, Dot, and myself.
Again, our next event is Saturday, Feb 12th at the Ira Nelson classroom. Following this will be our regular Wednesday meeting on March 2nd. Hope to see everyone there.
